The Oviedo High School NJROTC unit color guard is highly requested for many occasions. We have been asked by many places to go out and perform at their various events. Whether it be for a veterans day ceremony or for a graduation ceremony. If you would like to request our color guard for your event please contact Lieutenant Commander Haverkamp at: Harry_Haverkamp@scps.k12.fl.us
Toys For Tots
This year our drive runs from November 9, 2020-December 16, 2020
Each year our unit participates in the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. We put up our own Christmas tree in our unit where all the toys from the drive are kept. Our drive usually runs throughout the month of November, and the Marines will come by in December to pick up the toys so that they can be ready for the holiday season. If you feel the urge to donate a toy, you may come in to the unit to drop off the toy, or you may send it in with your student of the school.
Our first Adopt-A-Highway for this year was on August 29th, 2020.
During the course of the school year our cadets join in with the middle school kids from Jackson Heights and Lawton Chiles to clean up the stretch of SR 426 from Red Bug Lake road to Dean road. We meet up at the Home Depot parking lot at 8:00 AM and it usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half to clean our stretch. Both the middle school kids, and the cadets of the program are able to earn community service hours for this event.
Great Day in the Country
This has been canceled for year 2020!!!
Every year our cadets help out the Oviedo Women’s Club with their annual Great Day in the Country. The cadets who participate are able to earn community service hours. There are several shifts that our cadets could sign up for. These shifts split the time of the event into small sections, as well some cadets can sign up to work all day. Our cadets take pride in being out in the community and helping out. As well the Oviedo Women’s club appreciates the help given from our cadets with everything each year.
Every year our unit runs blood drives to help out One Blood. These drives are run during the school day, and allow for a small group of our cadets to help the students of the school who donate. The drives are held at least once every quarter of school.
