Lieutenant Commander Harry Haverkamp was born in York, Pennsylvania on 2 November 1959. He enlisted into the Delayed Entry Program in November 1977 and reported to Basic Training in Orlando, Florida in January 1978. Upon completion of Basic Training and Operation Specialist A-school he was assigned to the pre-commission crew of USS Moosbrugger DD-980 homeported in Charleston, SC. In November 1981 Petty Officer 2nd Class Haverkamp was transferred to Commander Hydrofoil Squadron Two in Key West, FL. While assigned he performed the duties as staff operation specialist responsible for schedules and casualty report tracking for six hydrofoils.
In November of 1984, he transferred to Navy Recruiting District New York and completed a shore tour as recruiter and recruiter in charge of various recruiting stations. After a successful tour in recruiting Petty Officer 1st Class Haverkamp reported to USS Stark FFG-31 as LPO of OI Division. During this tour he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and subsequently commissioned to Chief Warrant Officer.
Upon commissioning in May 1992 he was assigned as Combat Information Center Division Officer onboard USS Dale CG-19 until her decommissioning in 1994. CWO2 Haverkamp then reported to Commander Western Hemisphere Group, in Mayport, Florida as Staff CIC & NTDS Officer. In May 1996 he accepted a Limited Duty Officer appointment to LTjg.
In February 1998 he reported to Fleet Training Center Mayport, Florida as Combat Systems Department Head responsible for Operation, Combat Systems, and Information Technology Training.
LT Haverkamp then reported to 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as a Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer responsible for the training of Marine Corp Naval Gunfire Spot Teams. In November 2002, he reported to Naval Technical Training Center, Corry Station as Information Technology and Leadership Division Officer. He subsequently took over as Officer in Charge of the Center of Information Technology detachment Pensacola. During this period he graduated from Troy University.
In April 2005, LCDR Haverkamp was ordered to a position as Instructor and Maritime War-fighting Cell Lead for Information Warfare at Surface Warfare Officer School.

LCDR Haverkamp is married to the former Denise Murray of Chicago, IL. They have a one son Hunter.
